Koh Nangyuan island is a small island located just off the north-west coast of Koh Tao. The idyllic island is an instagrammer’s dream and is breathtaking no matter where you look.

The island has a famous view point on the southern most island, amazing snorkelling and even a restaurant to stop and get some lunch. Apart from Scuba Diving and getting your Open Water certification it should always be next on your Koh Tao bucket list.

SNORKELLING & DIVING
Koh Tao has become a world famous island not only because of it’s beauty on land, but also under the water. It’s crystal clear waters, calm bays and abundance of marine life has turned the island into a top diving and snorkelling destination. Koh Nangyuan is home to Japanese Gardens, Red Rock, Twin Pinnacles, Green Rock & Bouyancy world – some of the islands best snorkelling and diving spots.

VISITING THE VIEW POINT
Koh Nangyuan is arguably just as famous for its snorkelling and diving spots as it is for it’s view point. The view point is located on the southern most island on it’s very peak. The 15-20 minute hike can be a little difficult in Thailand’s tropical heat – so bring lots of water. The views at the top however are well worth the hike and make sure you don’t forget your camera as the view looks straight down over the sandbar connecting Koh Nangyuan’s three beautiful islands.

RELAXING ON THE BEACH
The beautiful sand bar that connects the three islands of Koh Nangyuan is an awesome place to chill out and work on your tan. The island is privately owned so the resort located on the island can provide beach towels and sun chairs to relax on for a small price.

GRAB LUNCH OR STAY OVERNIGHT
Koh Nangyuan is privately owned so the island has a small restaurant and even a hotel offering luxury rooms with amazing ocean views and the chance to have the island all to yourself before all the tourists arrive! The hotel is called ‘Nangyuan Island Dive resort’ and can be booked here.

How to get to Koh Nangyuan from Koh Tao

Koh Nangyuan is located just a few hundred meters from the North West coast of Koh Tao. Although the island is relatively close swimming is absolutely not recommended, the tides, waves and currents can be unpredictable and the narrow channel is used by all of the dive boats, snorkel boats, ferries and longtail boats carrying customers around Koh Tao creating a lot of boat traffic making it unsafe to swim.

There are two easy options to get to Koh Nangyuan. One is using the Lomprayah ferry company, to see a timetable or to book look here. The other option, which we recommend is to take a longtail boat. Sairee beach is Koh Tao’s main beach where all the restaurants and bars are located – it’s also where we are located here at Phoenix Divers and is the best place to find a longtail taxi. Just walk along the beach and you will see many signs saying ‘Taxi Boat’. The fares will get cheaper if you are in a bigger group as the cost can be split between you. Try to negotiate a deal where you keep the same driver there and back to get further discounts. The longtail journey takes around 15-20 minutes to get to Koh Nangyuan from Sairee beach.
